Job overview
A member of the bladder and bowel service who is skilled in providing and monitoring nursing care.
The post holder always acts professional and use their knowledge and experience to make evidence-based decisions and solve problems. They recognise and work within the limits of their competence and are responsible for their actions.
They contribute to the provision of care for people, including those with complex needs. They understand the roles of a range of professionals and carers from other organisations and setting who maybe participating in the care of a person and their family, and their responsibilities in relation to communication and collaboration.
The post holder will improve the quality of care by contributing to the continuous monitoring or peoples experience of care. They identify risks to safety or experience and take appropriate action, putting the best interests, needs and preferences of people first. They will contribute to on-going assessment and can recognise when it is necessary to refer to others for reassessment.
The role requires the ability to be flexible and adaptable whilst working in peoples homes and other community settings.
The post holder will have some responsibility for supervising less experienced or qualified staff and students in community placements and can act as a supervisors and/or assessors for Trainee Nurse Associates. They will be expected to actively contribute to quality assurance processes and service development.
Main duties of the job
To assess physical and psycho–social needs, plan, manage, implement and evaluate individual programmes of patient care in the most efficient and clinically effective way, which meets the needs of the patient and his/her carer(s).
Uses a range of assessment tools pertinent to the person's need to inform the assessment and assess risk for both patients and staff. Performs continence assessments.
Understands when to seek appropriate advice to manage a risk and avoid comprising quality of care and health outcomes acting in line with local and national organisational frameworks, legislation and regulations to report risk, and implement actions as instructed.
Demonstrates an ability to prioritise and manage their own workload and recognise where elements of care can safely be delegated to other colleagues carers and family members
Works in close liaison with nursing colleagues, of members of the multidisciplinary team and social care and voluntary sector.
Contributes to the provision of care for people including those with routine non problematic urinary catheters and including those with complex needs that have been taught intermittent self catheterization by a registered nurse. To perform second attempt at trial without catheter patients known to be uncomplicated

Essential criteria
- Nursing Associate Foundation Degree
- Registered Nursing Associate on NMC register
- GCSE Grade A-C Maths and English or skills level 2 Maths and English or equivalent.
Experience and Knowledge

- Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
- Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates.

- Understand requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
