We are seeking dynamic and motivated individual, who has a passion for providing 5 star patient care, to join the Haematology Department at Whiston Hospital. 

Ward 2A is a 21 bedded Haematology/General Medical ward with a day care facility. The successful candidate will provide high quality care, administer chemotherapy and care for people who have received chemotherapy, provide support to patients and their families during challenging treatment and sometimes end of life care.

The post holder will be expected to rotate to both days and nights, and be flexible in their approach to caring for a number of patients.

Our aim is to provide a high quality service whilst making our patients feel empowered and included in their care, to ensure we achieve the best in everything we do - now and in the future.

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To be responsible in association with the team leader for the formulation and implementation of individual patient care plans.

To participate in the holistic assessment of patients, and to formulate and review individual patient care plans and to act as ‘named nurse’ or associate for a group of patients from admission to discharge as determined by the Ward Manager.

To commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the Ward Manager.

To contribute to the setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care within the ward.

Help to ensure that all equipment is in safe working order in conjunction with the department equipment controller.

Internal rotation on to night duty and twilight shifts as required.

To assist in the promotion of effective communication with all ward staff and other departments as required.

Promote the safeguarding of vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy.

The Secretary of State has approved the partnership between St Helens & Knowsley and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals.

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

Maintain appropriate NMC registration

To be aware of and practice professionally in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and The Scope of Professional Practice.

To personally ensure fulfilment of the requirements for professional updating and to maintain a personal record for the future registration purposes.

Ensure that nursing care is appropriate, provided and is consistent with clinical guidelines.

Implement and evaluate programmes of care to meet needs of patients and undertake all forms of care within the clinical environment.

In accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the post holder will actively participate in the prevention and control of infection within the capacity of their role.  The Act requires the post holder to attend infection prevention and control training on induction and at regular updates and to take responsibility for the practical application of the training in the course of their work.  Infection prevention and control must be included in any personal development plan and/or appraisal.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate and recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures.

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES 

To participate in the teaching of students and the in-service training of qualified nurses and health care assistants and act as facilitator/mentor/preceptor as appropriate.

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supervise Health Care Assistants as and when required

Supervise Junior Staff Nurses once deemed sufficiently competent and experienced in role by Ward Manager

RESEARCH & AUDIT 

To commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the Ward Manager.

Qualifications

  • IV Drug Administration Certificate or competences

  • Teaching & Assessing Qualification/Training or equivalent experience
  • Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) in the Clinical Environment course or willing to work towards

Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge of clinical skills required to undertake the role
  • Knowledge of current professional & clinical issues
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures
  • Awareness of how audit may influence quality of patient care
  • Significant post registration experience
  • Substantial post registration experience within an acute hospital setting
