Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for implementing and managing the Quality management system (QMS) in Haematology/Transfusion department.
Working in a supervisory capacity they will provide direction as appropriate to assist in the in the management of the workload focusing on where errors or non-conformances have occurred and ensuring that staff are fully trained and competent in the recording and management of the non-conformances.
They will lead in audit training within the department supporting both new and existing team members to become competent in completing audits and raising and assigning findings as appropriate.
They will utilise data from audit findings and trend analysis of adverse events and incidents to direct improvement work within the department.
They will maintain good working relationships amongst all staff, promoting effective teamwork and the professional image of the Department of Pathology within the Trust.

Ensuring that the Haematology/Transfusion department embraces a Quality culture in line with ISO15189:2022 (or equivalent accreditation) standards

Maintain and foster the highest possible standards of technical work in the department  ensuring compliance with ISO 15189:2022 (UKAS), HSE and MHRA standards

In support of the Pathology quality manager to develop, facilitate and co-ordinate the audit of laboratory processes

Be responsible for the training of new and existing team members in all aspects of the Quality management system within Haematology/Transfusion including audit, document management and the recording of training records.

Identify and implement improvements and development of the service, evaluating new equipment and introducing new techniques where applicable

Monitor and review reported incidents, clinical and non-clinical, and provide feedback on trends to Haematology/Transfusion Management and Pathology management where appropriate, ensuring RCAs are complete.

Produce and present reports to the management team on the QM system within Haematology/Transfusion

Maintain registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist

Adhere to relevant Codes of Practice of the HCPC and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MSc Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
  • Fellowship of Institute of Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
  • Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council
Desirable criteria
  • Management Qualification within the NHS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Suitable post registration experience
  • Knowledge of continuous Improvement processes
  • Proven ability to manage and perform audit
  • Working knowledge of laboratory computer systems and standard IT packages
  • High level knowledge of pathology instrumentation
  • Knowledge of Health & safety requirements including COSHH regulations and assessment
  • Experience of managing quality systems including document control, audit, and ISO 15189:2022 (UKAS) accreditation

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
