Annex 21 Training opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced radiographer to join our team of reporting radiographers. 

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated individual to train to report plain film studies and DEXA. The post holder  will support in leading and developing our  service as well as supporting the operational managers. You must have a flexible approach to working and be able to demonstrate good organisational and communication skills along with a commitment to service improvement.

An Enhanced DBS Certificate, with the checking of the Adults and Children's Barred Lists is required for this position.

Main duties of the job

 

  • The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the best quality images are obtained and  support staff education, day-to-day support of the  operational management of the  service that we provide working closely with our Consultant Radiologists and our administration team.  
  • You will work clinically as well as performing managerial tasks and will be expected to cover out of hours and weekend working within the Radiology department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY DUTIES

 

  1. Responsible for administration, performance monitoring and data quality of the PACS/RIS and other integrated systems.

 

  1.  Responsible for training of staff in PACS/RIS and associated systems.

 

  1. Perform diagnostic imaging examinations in accordance with departmental protocols.

 

  1. Responsible for ensuring image quality is maintained from all staff members

 

  1. Responsible for the initial and ongoing training and education of staff in the designated modality.

 

  1. Be competent in the use of all appropriate imaging equipment

 

  1. Participate in the on-call, flexible working and out of hours service as required

 

  1. Responsible for  QA program in designated area

 

  1. Abide by radiographic protocols

 

  1. Abide by all Radiation Protection regulations

 

  1. Report all equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel

 

  1. Responsible for sending accurate image data to the Picture Archiving Communication System for storage, transmission and archive

 

  1. Justify radiographic examinations for Junior Radiographers, Radiographic Assistant Practitioners and Student Radiographers.

 

  1.  Promote quality initiatives, ensuring the quality of patient care and compliance of quality standards

 

  1.  Undertake staff appraisals

 

  1. Establish and maintain effective communication with patients on complex, contentious and sensitive issues, using persuasion and negotiation where required

 

  1. Maintain a patient, courteous manner in all aspects of communication with patients and staff especially in distressing situations

 

  1. Liaise with lead clinicians to ensure effective running of the service

 

  1. Maintain a good working relationship with other departments and staff to ensure the provision of and efficient and effective service to all users and patients

 CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES  

  1. Autonomously undertake Advanced Practice in a specialised area of radiography by displaying expert clinical practice, this could be either clinical interpretation of images, performing radiological or interventional procedures where appropriate.
  1. To provide clinical leadership to all staff in the department
  1. To act as a radiographic clinical expert in the relevant field

  1. Provide education to junior staff and ensure competencies are achieved.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES 

  1. Responsible for the training and development of staff both radiographic staff and external staff.
  1. Contribute to continuing education programme by attending courses and keeping abreast of current professional developments
  1. Participate in department CPD programme
  1. Ensure professional standards are maintained by contributing to the clinical training and development of radiographers, radiographic assistant practitioners and students

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Responsible for the day to day management of the designated department, planning and prioritising workload
  1. Ensure the effective and efficient running of the service with due regard to available resources. Allocating activity to ensure maximised use of capacity. Using data to inform decisions.
  1. Monitor and evaluate all aspects of service delivery with regard to waiting times ensuring that waiting times are kept to a minimum
  1. Demonstrate effective leadership qualities and promote teamwork
  1. Undertake initial investigation of patient and user complaints and exercising judgement and initiative take appropriate actions to resolve the problem/complaint
