Job overview

Are you committed to providing an outstanding environment for our service users? We are looking to recruit a caring and committed person to join our busy  inpatient units for the role of Housekeeper on sites in the North Liverpool and Sefton areas of Merseyside.

The vacancy will cover both Pine Ward and Dunes Ward at Hartley Hospital, Southport.

If you would like to support us in providing an outstanding, clean environment, and in working with service users and as a valued part of the nursing team,  we are keen to hear from you.

Previous experience of housekeeping duties would be helpful, but training will be provided.

We have 1 full time post, covering both wards.

Main duties of the job

The housekeeper will be required to co-ordinate a range of duties associated with all patient facilities and services. As part of the team the housekeeper will be expected to work as a member of the team. The duties will include, supporting with breakfast, lunch time services, ordering stock and stock control, ordering laundry, putting stores away, supporting patients with their bedrooms, making beds. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

MEETING NUTRITIONAL NEEDS


1. To assist patients to order food that meets their dietary requirements.
2. To promote a pleasant environment for eating, i.e. remove any clutter from tables.
3. Take responsibility for food stores, ensuring it is clean at al times, i.e. discard out of date food, stock rotation.
4. To ensure temperature of ward fridge is monitored as per trust policy.
5. To ensure food in fridge is labelled and stored correctly.
6. To take responsibility for the staff fridge, i.e. discard out of date food

MAINTAINING THE ENVIRONMENT
1. To establish a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere to patients, visitors and staff.
2. To carry out monitoring of service To establish delivery related to – cleaning, food, linen and the environment, with particular attention to the bathrooms and toilets (at agreed intervals).
3. To ensure all requirements for maintenance/repairs to equipment are reported in a timely manner to Estates.
4. To monitor response times for maintenance and report any issues to the Team Manager.
5. To maintain the cleanliness of all nursing equipment and trolleys.
6. To liaise with staff following the discharge of a patient with regards to the cleaning of the bed/bedroom in preparation for a new admission.
7. Check curtains/blinds are in good working order and rectify any faults.
8. To ensure that all alcohol gel dispensers are cleaned and replenished.
9. Monitor that correct waste management is being adhered to, especially confidential waste.
10. Keep notice boards and tidy and check that all posters/flyers are laminated and in date.
11. Keep patient information boards and displays up to date and clean and tidy.

 

CLINICAL
1. Facilitate and support the development of appropriate personal care
2. Facilitate and support self help, communication and social skills acquisition
3. Assist and promote independence with activities of daily living
4. Ensure appropriate records are maintained under the direction of the qualified practitioner.
5. Contribute to the involvement of service users, and carers/relatives in the delivery of care
6. Provide reassurance and support to service users and carers/family
7. Work collaboratively within the Care team to ensure that service user’s needs are met
8. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
9. Provide escort for service users and undertake transfer of service users as directed
10. Report any concern regarding service user care to the Qualified Practitioner
11. Support an individual’s equality, diversity and rights.

 

GENERAL
1. To ensure personal privacy, dignity and confidentiality is maintained at all times.
2. To assist with bed making, where appropriate, ensuring an adequate supply of linen is available at all times.
3. Liaise with domestic supervisor when deep cleaning is needed.
4. Ensure any items of broken or severely soiled furniture are reported to the Team Manage and collection and disposal arranged.
5. To receive and welcome visitors.
6. To respond to telephone calls in a courteous manner.
7. To receive and pass information to others, maintaining confidentiality.
8. To ensure cost effective use of resources.
9. To respond to patient concerns through communication with nursing staff.
10. To promote effective communication with patients, colleagues, other professionals and visitors to the trust.
11. Maintain a professional image at all times.

Qualifications

Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent level of experience within a care setting

Knowledge/Experience
