Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our Domestic Team at the Southport site.  

Available Shift Patterns/Hours 

  • Mon, Wed, Thursday, Friday and Alternative weekend day (35 Hours)
  • Monday to Friday (35-hours)
  • Monday to Friday 6pm – 10pm (20-hours)
  • Monday to Friday 5pm – 9pm (20-hours)
  • Monday to Friday 5pm – 8pm (15-hours)
  • Saturday & Sunday 4pm – 8pm (8-hours)
  • 2 x Saturday & Sunday 5pm -8pm (6-hours)

Main duties of the job

  • Providing a customer focused service, to carry out general and specialised cleaning tasks in accordance with Trust procedures.
  • To ensure the environment is maintained to a high standard and safe working practices adhere to in all aspects of environmental/ hygiene management.

Our Services

Acute Care

Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.

Primary Care

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.

Community Services

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Cleaning of structures, non-clinical patient equipment and components, manually or mechanically.
  2. Isolation cleans/infection cleans as required
  3. Set up and use of Hydrogen Peroxide “fogging “/UV machine cleaning of areas as required
  4. Carry ascom to respond to requests for infection cleans/Fogging/UV
  5. Maintenance / cleaning of all housekeeping equipment.
  6. Assist in the commissioning/ decommissioning of area
  7. Curtain changes as appropriate, safe removal of dirty linen
  8. Keep a tidy work environment
  9. Follow Waste Disposal Policy to ensure safe removal of waste, ensuring correct segregation of waste.
  10. Ensuring that building security controls are adhered to and problems reported immediately.
  11. To cover other clinics or hospitals as necessary
  12. To work unsupervised as a Lone Worker and be aware of the issues.
  13. Use own judgement to overcome operational issues regarding day to day tasks.
  14. Use cleaning equipment such as buffers, scrubbers and buckets containing water and cleaning solutions, plus low and high cleaning work, requiring physical effort.
  15. Working in the vicinity of body fluids, physical aggression and exposure to hazards may occasionally occur.

Quality

  1. Ensure compliance with Pas 5748 and hygiene standards.
  2. Ensure all appropriate hygiene monitoring is carried out and recorded for every process.
  3. Ensure all Infection Prevention and control procedures are adhered, which includes maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene.
  4. Ensure compliance with all legal requirements of food safety.
  5. Maintain and improve all aspects of service
  6. Responsible for the flushing of water systems and maintaining accurate records in line with regulations pertaining to Legionella and Pseudomonas as instructed.
  7. Participate in staff involvement groups for all aspects of the Trust Quality Strategy 2016/21.
  8. Participate in trials of products and equipment as required

Communication

  1. Ensure good customer relations working with patients and all levels of staff, e.g. ward managers.
  2. To work effectively as part of a team
  3. Adopt an empathetic approach to patients and visitors, ensuring the areas are cleaned with minimal disruption to patients.
  4. Be aware of patients who may have challenging behaviours due to their medical condition, ensuring confidentiality and privacy and dignity are observed at all times.

Financial responsibility

  1. Store keeping including storage and stock rotation submitting orders in a timely manner
  2. Ensure economic use of all materials
  3. Ensure good practice to minimise waste

Staff/ Training

  1. Staff will be trained in all aspects of the housekeeping role over a minimum of 4 weeks or until deemed competent.
  2. Standard Operating Procedures to be followed.
  3. All trained staff are expected to display a flexible and supportive attitude to their work and colleagues providing guidance and assistance to new or existing members of staff.
  4. Participate in the staff appraisal system and attend training in accordance with your personal development plan.
  5. Complete and maintain competency level.
  6. Staff to have an understanding of COSHH, and use of PPE, and adhere to health and safety regulations around the use of chemicals.
