Job overview

This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Department of Medicine for Older People. This is a full time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Southport & Ormskirk hospital. 

Due to the short term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through the shortlisting stage.

Main duties of the job

  • The post is based at Southport District General Hospital and will join the existing multi-disciplinary team of  General Physicians, Nurse Consultant, ANPs and Physicians Associate in delivering acute patient care in the Stroke department.
  • This post is ideal for and experienced doctor planning a career in Stroke or Geriatric medicine to gain exposure in a fast-paced unit managing general  patients on ambulatory pathways.
  • Whilst this is a non-training post, post holders will have a clinical educational supervisor and will be able to attend teaching session in the Trust as well as accessing the well-equipped library with IT facilities. There is also the opportunity to have an electronic portfolio (for a fee) 
  • Contribute as a middle grade in the running of one of the Stroke ward 15B at Southport Hospital
  • Participate in the General Medicine on call rota as a middle grade/Registrar
  • Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties 
  • Advise FY1’s, CT Trainees and ANPs about management of patients 
  • Develop skills in managing the wards to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patients

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Essential criteria
  • Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of application
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualifications
  • ALS Certification
  • Completed Foundation Year Programme and/or equivalent medical qualification/experience
  • Completed 2 years’ experience in a medical speciality, post Foundation Programme or equivalent experience
  • Completed or part completed UK MRCP examinations or equivalent post-graduate examination
