Job overview
We are looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated Speciality Trainee to join our existing team of 9 consultants and 5 SAS Drs who offer both general and specialist Ophthalmic services such as glaucoma, retinal and eye casualty. We are looking for those who are interested in working in the Cornea service.
We are looking to recruit into a 8 PA job plan, providing a designed job plan Monday - Friday and supporting with the on-call rota within PA's Monday - Sunday
The ophthalmology service is supported by an excellent team consisting of Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists and Specialist Imaging Staff.
Main duties of the job
The principle role of the post-holder is to be an active member of the team. We encourage the personal development of our Trainee Doctors. The post-holder is key to the team and is expected to take a teamwork approach to relationships with other departments, clinic and theatre staff.
The post-holder is invited to contribute to academic, audit and clinical governance issues within the department and the Trust.

Registration, Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
- Shall have completed at least 4 years’ full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or Shall have equivalent experience and competencies
Desirable criteria
- DRCOphth, MCROphth, FRCOphth or equivalent Experience of working in the NHS
- FRCOphth or equivalent Experience of working in the NHS
Audit and Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Experience in and participation in audit
- Experience of a wide range of clinical ophthalmology
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Ability to work independently with senior support off site
Interpersonal skills
Essential criteria
- Willingness to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate
- Ability to establish good working relationships with staff and be able to communicate well with patients
