This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist to take on a newly developed regional role. This post is a fixed-term position for an initial 24 months.
The postholder will work across a diverse caseload, providing expert clinical support, advice, and care coordination for patients with mesothelioma, ensuring a high-quality, patient-centred experience throughout their pathway.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across the region, you will enhance patient experience, improve access to specialist care, and act as a trusted point of contact for patients and families.
Jointly funded by Mesothelioma UK and the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance, this post reflects a strong regional commitment to advancing specialist mesothelioma services and improving outcomes.
As a new role, you will help shape service development and lead on data collection and evaluation to support a business case for its future sustainability and growth.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties

Provide expert, patient-centred clinical care to individuals diagnosed with mesothelioma across a regional caseload, ensuring continuity of care and high-quality patient experience.

Act as a key point of contact and source of specialist advice for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Support and coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring timely access to investigations, treatments, and supportive services.

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate complex care needs, including symptom management, psychosocial support, and palliative care where appropriate.

Promote patient education and self-management, ensuring patients and families are informed and supported throughout the care pathway.

Contribute to service development, including the design, implementation, and evaluation of new pathways and care initiatives.

Collect and analyse service and patient data to support ongoing service evaluation and development, including contributing to a business case for the future sustainability of the post.

Maintain professional standards, ensuring compliance with organisational policies, clinical guidelines, and evidence-based practice.

Act as an ambassador for mesothelioma care, raising awareness and promoting best practice across the regional healthcare network.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- Degree in healthcare related subject
- Evidence of Masters level learning
- Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant specialist subject
- Advanced Communications Skills training or prepared to work towards
- Leadership experience
Desirable criteria
- MSc Clinical Examination
- Psychological skills training - level 2 or above
- Msc Research qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post registration experience,, in cancer, palliative care or the specialty
- Experience of teaching
- In-depth specialist knowledge
- Experience of multi-professional working
- Leadership and Management experience
- Evidence of advanced communications skills
