Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join our in-patient therapy teams covering surgical areas and working alongside the respiratory team. The post holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in this specific area . The team have a therapy office shared between physio and OT, which supports blended working. Ensuring Wirral patients are in the right place at the right time is supported by Home First.
There are opportunities to engage in training and development, innovative practice and service development. There will be opportunities to develop skills within critical care.
You will have professional support for your CPD from Therapy Team and Clinical Leader and support from Senior Occupational Therapists from other specialities as required. The services also support student training and apprenticeships enabling you to contribute to the future of the profession.

Main duties of the job
- Assesses and treats own caseload of patients / clients in a speciality and maintains associated records.
- To have a responsibility for Training & Development of occupational therapy staff, students and other staff groups in this speciality.
- Supervise less experienced occupational therapists, assistants, apprentices and students.
- Participates as a member of the therapy team and the MDT within a specified clinical area.
- Has a responsibility re-own CPD and other developmental activities.
- Involvement in identifying and carrying out departmental audit, research or service development activity.
- Participates in providing 7-day services and extended working day, as required by the service. (Some of our services work on extended hours rotas working between 8 am and 8pm.)

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have an enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Basic computer skills, including use of an electronic patient record system
- Well developed theoretical knowledge under pinning Occupational Therapy practice
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Good analytical, problem solving and clinical reasoning skills
Desirable criteria
- Ability to communicate within difficult circumstances and demonstrate empathetic approach to patients
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), analytical, problem solving skills and clinical reasoning
- Understanding of national issues and relating them to own clinical practice
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC
- HCPC registration
- Active collection of relevant CPD in portfolio
- Appropriate experience as a qualified Occupational Therapist
- Previous care experience
- Core Rotations as an Occupational Therapist in a range of core areas: o Orthopaedics o Medical or Frailty Inpatients o Neurological Rehabilitation
- Experience working as part of multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists or similar
- High level of clinical reasoning with excellent theoretical knowledge underpinning practice
- Demonstrate a good awareness of needs of patient and appropriate action to take
- Demonstrate awareness of the roles of others in providing patient care and ability to work as an effective team member
- Experience supervising junior, students, apprentices or non-registered staff
- Student Educator Course
