Job overview

 We are looking for an accredited coder who is  competent in accurately coding multiple complex specialities  and who understands the need for high quality coded data that supports healthcare planning, reimbursement, management of services, statistical analysis, and research.

Applications are welcome from accredited clinical coders who wish to move into a more senior role leading a small team of clinical coders 

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours) based at Clatterbridge Hospital, with opportunity for hybrid working and flexibility with working times to support our employees with a healthy work/life balance.

Main duties of the job

Lead a small team of clinical coders providing appraisals and check ins 

Provide mentoring and feedback to junior staff

Responsible for own coding workload ensuring timeliness of work as well as accuracy

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • National Clinical Coding Qualification (UK)
  • Significant clinical coding experience post Standards/Foundation course and post NCCQ
  • Clinical Coding Standards Course
  • Clinical Coding Standards Refresher Course
  • Educated to A-level standard
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree level
  • Attendance on Clinical Coding Workshops
  • Experience of Clinical Coding Audit
  • Membership of professional organisation

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • National and local performance and quality standards
  • Relevant Data Security and Protection Toolkit Requirements
  • Understanding of SNOMED CT
  • Excellent concentration and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods of time
  • Working knowledge of Cerner Millennium
Desirable criteria
  • Use of SNOMED encoder
  • Coaching skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Report writing
