Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Support Medical Secretary to join our busy secretarial team within the Medical Division.
You will be based within the Haematology Secretarial Team, however, this role could require an adaptable approach as you may be asked to support various parts of the Division. This role is working alongside a team of 2 medical secretaries, currently supporting a substantial workforce of over 5 Consultants, a Nurse Consultant and 4 Specialist nurses.
Excellent communication, organisational and secretarial abilities are essential to the role.
Main duties of the job
You will responsible for maintaining patients’ records, processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, producing correspondence from audio/copy and dealing with telephone calls. In addition, you will liaise with Consultants, other Trust staff, and organisations outside of the department in order to resolve queries. You will have the ability to work under pressure, prioritise your workload and to deal with confidential and sensitive issues in a professional manner.
Experience is desirable however not essential.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- AMSPAR Medical Terminology Certificate, or equivalent qualification/experience
- RSA Level II word processing or equivalent
- Experience of Audio-typing.
- Experience of working in an administrative role.
Desirable criteria
- Previous administrative experience working with in the NHS or medical environment
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Good IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office
- Good time management/organisational skills
- Awareness of Trust guidelines regarding complaints, confidentiality etc
Desirable criteria
- Ability to use own initiative and prioritise workload using organisational skills
- Awareness of Trust guidelines regarding patient confidentiality, complaints, etc.
- Awareness of relevant NHS/departmental targets for example 18 week RTT and cancer
