Senior Biomedical Scientist – IT Specialist Microbiology

Job overview

The post-holder is a highly experienced, state registered Senior Biomedical Scientist and performs scientific investigations in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, the role also includes managing the information and computer systems used by the Microbiology service.  Additionally, acting as information Officer in respect of requests for data searches on the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Involved in the daily supervision of Biomedical Scientists and support staff.

Has technical responsibility of a section of the laboratory.  Scientists in this grade take charge of a section of work and will be expected to supervise and train qualified and unqualified staff.

They may also unsupervised as part of the 24/7 service.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registration with Health Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Specialist knowledge in Microbiology to MSc degree level or equivalent specialist experience with evidence of IT & Information Management experience
Desirable criteria
  • MSc Degree in Health Informatics, Information Management or similar
  • A management qualification
