Job overview

To work as part of a team under the supervision of the Team Leader providing clerical and reception support in a busy Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic. 

Booking appointments and maintaining appropriate records.

Working hours are Wednesday , Thursday and Friday 08:30 - 5:00 pm

Main duties of the job

  • Arrange the booking, reception and follow up of out-patients for any clinician in accordance with agreed requirements.
  • Complete all required documentation and computer records.
  • Deal with any difficulties relating to the clinic, referring to a higher level if required, and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Receive and acknowledge incoming referral letters as appropriate.
  • Refer letters to Consultant/clinician for further advice as required.
  • Book and advise patients of appointments using the Trust’s  booking protocols.
  • Ensure clinics are booked to full capacity as per the agreed schedule.
  • Make suggestions as to any modification to ensure smooth running of clinic based on demand.
  • Ensure that all outpatient targets are met, in relation to appointments.
  • Registering and booking all first and urgent new fracture clinic appointments from the work list and contacting patients with appointment dates and times.
  • Providing Reception support on a rota basis with other members of the Clerical Team.  
  • Preparing clinics and ensuring results of investigations are available for the Consultant and Patient to discuss.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Experience of working in an administrative role
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 in a relevant subject
  • Previous experience in an NHS acute hospital
  • Previous experience of the Cerner Millennium information system

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Basic working knowledge of IT
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL
