Job overview

We are looking for a Trust LAS  Specialist Registrar at ST3+ level  to support a busy Trauma and Orthopaedic Department that consists of 20 Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultants.

 This is a 12 month fixed term post commencing in August 2025.

Please note: This post require some flexibility with working patterns and  hours of work, but will average 40 hours per week including an admin session

Main duties of the job

  • The appointee will be required to assist in the supervision, teaching, training and monitoring of more junior doctors and also the teaching and training of medical students
  • The appointee will have delegated responsibility for all the patients under the care of their Consultant / team. He/she will refer to the Consultant when problems arise which are beyond his/her authority and/or experience
  • The appointee must maintain liaison with colleagues who are on duty immediately before and after
  • It is the responsibility of the appointee to ensure that the Trauma service is managed promptly and effectively.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to be at ST3 competency or more. There is an active audit programme with opportunities for involvement in various projects.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for Registration with GMC
  • Certificate of Completion of Basic Surgical Training / Equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • MRCS
  • Intercalated BSc
  • Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships
  • Other evidence of academic achievements

Training (Clinical Skills)

Essential criteria
  • ATLS certificate valid at time of application
  • Basic Fracture Management Course (AO or equivalent)
  • Completed at least 12 months in SHO posts in Orthopaedics in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • Completed time in Registrar / equivalent posts in Orthopaedics in the UK
  • Attendance at educational courses and scientific meetings
  • Ability to plan and undertake presentations
  • Publication in a recognised Peer Review Journal

Organisation and Planning

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in audit in the past 12 months
Desirable criteria
  • Information Technology Skills
