Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 midwife to join our team within the Antenatal Outpatients Department and Maternity Day Unit. This role will involve working within the Antenatal Clinic and the Maternity Day Unit with the established team as well as alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team. The role will include providing excellent antenatal care for our service users and include supporting the High Risk and Fetal Medicine Teams to provide specialist care and services. The post is permanent and 22.5hrs a week. Hours of work will vary between standard 7.5-hour days and 11.5-hour long days with times ranging between 0800 and 2000 Monday to Friday with the possibility of weekend hours in the future.
The successful candidate will be an autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for the provision of care predominantly in the antenatal period, but also the intrapartum and postnatal periods, for service users in the outpatient area. You will be responsible for risk assessments, reviewing scan reports, making plans of care, and implementation of care both high and low risk, and also supporting the team members and manager in the effective running of the antenatal clinical area.
You will also support, supervise and teach staff/students evidence-based client centred care, which is of a high standard, being responsible for ensuring that all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures and maintaining associated records of care.
Main duties of the job
Providing excellent antenatal care services from preconception and throughout pregnancy, including supporting specialist and high-risk teams to manage complex issues and situations and offer support, care and guidance to all service users and their families.
Ensuring the efficient operation of day-to-day ANC activities including USS reviews, AN checks and follow up care, working within Maternity Day Unit and supporting the high-risk team, specialist services and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent AN care is provided and screening standards and guidelines are adhered to.
Providing expert advice as a professional within the Antenatal Outpatient Department.
Supporting with care in early pregnancy loss following diagnosis in the ANC area and offering compassionate care to families.
Supporting the maternity triage area if needed as part of the wider team within the AN Outpatients area.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.
As this vacancy is within the division of Women’s and Children’s, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £16 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife with sufficient relevant post registration experience
- Successful completion of clinical midwifery competencies
- To gain evidence based knowledge in high risk pregnancy and the complicated delivery
- To attend mandatory annual educational updates (CPR, Fire Safety, Health and Safety, Manual Handling and CTG package, obstetric drills) and training for new initiatives
- To accept responsibility for identifying own educational requirements and professional development
- Mentorship qualification
