Job overview
A Band 2 Healthcare Assistant supports registered nurses and other healthcare professionals with basic patient care. It’s an entry‑level clinical role focused on hands‑on support, patient comfort, and maintaining a safe care environment.
Main duties of the job
Direct Patient Care

Assisting patients with personal care: washing, dressing, toileting, oral hygiene.

Helping with mobility: repositioning, using hoists, walking assistance.

Supporting nutrition and hydration: serving meals, helping patients eat and drink, monitoring intake.
Clinical Support
-
Making beds, including occupied bed changes.
-
Maintaining cleanliness and infection control standards.
-
Restocking equipment and ensuring clinical areas are tidy.
-
Escorting patients to appointments or departments.
Communication
-
Reporting changes in a patient’s condition to nurses.
-
Providing reassurance, emotional support, and clear communication to patients and families.

Documenting care activities according to Trust policy.
