Job overview

We are seeking an organised and approachable individual to work as a Ward Clerk within Maternity services at the Princess of Wales Hospital.

We aim to provide a high standard of care within our ward, and we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated, has a friendly manner and an excellent work ethic.

Good organisational and communication skills are essential as well as a flexible approach to work.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous office and front of house experience, ideally within a similar role.

Agood general education, 3 GCSE's or equivalent is required.

Knowledge of Health Board IT systems to include WPAS, Oracle and Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP) would be desirable, although full training will be given. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be able to use a variety of communication and interpersonal skills and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels throughout the UHB.

The post holder will:

 

  • Plan and prioritise day-to-day tasks and workload.
  • Communicate with patients, colleagues, members of the public, and other agencies involved in patient care and non-patient individuals within the UHB or other external agencies.
  • Receive and convey routine information that requires tactful, persuasive, and empathetic skills when dealing with difficult patients and carers in person or over the phone.
  • Be able to handle conflict situations using diplomacy, tact, and empathy when dealing with patients/relatives and members of the public who may be upset or agitated.
  • Undertake general reception duties, meeting and greeting clients and visitors.
  • Always be non-judgemental and professional in appearance when representing the Health Board.
