An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 to join the Emergency Department team at Princess of Wales hospital
The Emergency Department at Princess of Wales hospital is a busy department within a large District General Hospital. The unit consists of a dedicated paediatric unit, minor injuries unit, majors unit and an adult and paediatric resuscitation area.
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide a high quality service and clinical evidence based care to our patient population whilst ensuring a positive learning environment for all staff.
The successful candidate will need to have a clear vision for best practice and evidence of complex decision-making skills.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving direct and indirect care for the benefit of the patient/client in accordance with agreed protocols.
Provide leadership, mentorship and support and act as a role model to the team.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to, and staff within the Emergency Department (ED) meet the UHB requirements outlined in the Health and Safety Policy.
The post holder will support the Senior Nurse to provide line management, clinical and professional leadership, advice and support to nurses within the ED and ensure the highest standard of nursing care is delivered to patients attending the ED.
The post holder will have a continuing responsibility of the management and the delivery of a highly specialised service.
They will assist the Senior Nurse in developing systems and processes to monitor:
- Quality of care.
- Adherence to UHB policies and procedures.
- Clinical practice.
- The post holder will maximise the performance of all nursing staff within ED, ensuring effective structures for the supervision and direction of work.
- They will lead on audits for the Emergency Department, providing audit outcomes and reports to the wider multi-disciplinary team

The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. - Evidence of managing a group of staff
- Ability to carry out and interpret audits, and act accordingly

- Understanding the concept and importance of clinical governance

Essential criteria
- Fully trained and competent in the use of the Manchester Triage
- Experience of clinical leadership
- Ability to produce written and verbal reports pertinent to the post
- Extensive clinical knowledge and skills

- Specific ongoing project and goals
Desirable criteria
- TNCC or equivalent
- ALS/ePALS
- Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B1) are Desirable for this Role.
