Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Respiratory medicine specifically working within the Pleural/NIV service at the Princess of Wales Hospital Bridgend.

 

Main duties of the job

Clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patient presenting with pleural effusions and who require NIV.

Education - education of others and self.

Leadership - lead on change and support development of guidelines and policies.

Research - use of of evidence based practice and project development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our well established, motivated and forward thinking respiratory medical/ pleural/NIV team at the Princess of wales Hospital in Bridgend as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner. 

Clinical - The ACP will work as an autonomous clinician and will be expected to  provide assessment, diagnostic investigations and management of patients referred to pleural and NIV service as outpatient or inpatient. They will need be able to undertake a clinical examination, request and interpret radiology, biochemistry, haematology, histology and microbiology results. They will need to be able to undertake a chest ultra sound and pleural aspiration and be competent in the insertion of chest drains.

Education - provision of education to a multi-professional audience around specialist area of practice and to patient and families.  Maintenance of own education and a live portfolio of evidence in line with HEIW Enhanced and Advanced Framework for Wales and HB requirements.  The candidate is expected to have completed or working toward Level 7/Masters level clinical education and non-medical independent prescribing qualification.

Leadership - lead on service change. Influence the agenda around specialist area of practice locally and nationally. Support the development of clinical guidelines and policy

Research - use of Evidence Based Practice. Undertake QiP and audit projects related to specialist area of practice

The post is open to fully trained Advanced Clinical Practitioners from nursing or AHP backgrounds. Those with extensive and experience in respiratory medicine who have yet to achieve Advanced Practice status or all of the key skills and requirements for this role will be considered.  In this instance a developmental post at band 7 with application of Annex 21 will adopted.

Annex 21

During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows :

Months 1 - 12 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 7 pay scale,
Months 13-24 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 7 pay scale,

Upon successful attainment of the qualification, even if sooner than the 24 month allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the bottom of the Band 7 pay scale (without financial detriment), as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Job Description as indicated.

NOTE : There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary.  To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations.  Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 7, again without financial detriment.
