Job overview

The ward clerk will provide an efficient clerical service to support the smooth running of day-to-day operational issues within the ward environment.  The ward clerk will work as part of a busy team providing professional reception duties and clerical support to the Mental Health Ward/s and be expected to liaise in a professional manner with patients, visitors, colleagues, and other agencies and undertake a wide spectrum of duties within the confines of the role. As the ward clerk the broad spectrum of the role will encompass general office duties, clerical duties, reception and telephone duties. 

Main duties of the job

·        The ward clerk will need to liaise in a professional manner with patients, visitors, colleagues within the Mental Health Directorate as well as across the Health Board and other involved in-patient care and undertake a range of duties within the spectrum of the role.

·        The emphasis within the Mental Health Directorate will be on team working, sharing of knowledge and experience for the overall benefit of the organisation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • Be literate and numerate, educated to GCSE level or above
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL NVQII customer care Excellent computer skills

Experience

  • Experience of using databases and data entry
  • Experience of problem solving
Desirable criteria
  • Has previously worked in the NHS or similar environment

Skills and attributes

Essential criteria
  • Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a challenging environment
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards achieving this level
  • Ability to travel to any site managed by the Mental Health Directorate in a timely manner
