As a Senior Healthcare Science Assistant in our dynamic Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics Unit, you’ll be at the heart of delivering high-quality, non-invasive respiratory diagnostic tests across a wide range of patients— across all life stages. Whilst in the role we will train you to work towards being an independent practitioner, developing knowledge to interpret results, and support clinical teams with timely, accurate data that directly impacts patient care.
You’ll also supervise junior staff, train future healthcare science practitioners, and contribute to the smooth running of services across multiple hospital sites, including the Prince Charles and Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
Whilst a standalone position it is part of the Healthcare Science career pathway so welcome applications from postgraduate students with relevant science degrees who are looking to enter the profession and work towards a recognised Healthcare Science qualification.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will follow standard operating procedures and perform a range of routine Respiratory Diagnostic tests independently on a range inpatients and outpatients.
The post holder will record, analyse and provide a technically accurate report on a range of tests, updating Departmental records, and returning results to requesting Clinicians Teams to update patient records.
Respiratory (Routine and Non-Routine)
· Dynamic lung volumes – Spirometry / flow volume loops.
· Bronchodilator challenge under supervision for delivery of nebuliser.
· Ambulatory monitoring hook up , removal and download for sleep apnoea screening and multichannel sleep monitoring to include Pulsox/Embletta/Alice monitors.
· PiCo recording.
· NIOX recording.
The post holder will act as a supervisor to junior staff, and support the Healthcare Science Associate in their role. The post holder will be required to provide training to Trainee Healthcare Science Practitioners and less experienced staff on the range of routine tests within the remit of this role
The post holder will be based at Prince Charles site but will have regular shifts in Royal Glamoirgan Hopsital and the satellite clinics. Applicants therefore must have the ability to travel and will be expected to undertake this role across all sites within Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB as service requires.

- Certificate/Diploma level in Clinical Physiology, or skills, knowledge, training or work experience to NVQ Level 3 equivalency.

- Appropriate experience as a Healthcare Science Assistant or Assistant technical officer in Cardiac and Respiratory science.

- Society of Cardiological Science and Technology Certificate in Electrocardiography.
- Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above

- ECG interpretation - Sound knowledge of ECG rhythm abnormalities and conduction problems to Society of Cardiological Science and Technology Certificate level.
