Emergency Medicine: Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner
We have an exciting development opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced professional who would like to extend their scope of practice to an advanced level.
Where required, the post holder will be expected to undertake a four-year training programme under Annex 21 (Band 8a) working towards achieving a level 7 qualification in advanced practice and local consultant sign-off as an EM:ACP.
Annex 21 remuneration applies (60% of the top of Band 8a pay for Year 1, 65% of the top of Band 8a pay for Year 2, 70% of the top of Band 8a pay for Year 3, 75% of the top of Band 8a pay for Year 4).
Note : No finanical detriment if the successful candidate is an existing NHS Wales employee.

Main duties of the job
- The post holder will work as part of the clinical team in the ED and will be committed to a pathway of training and education aligned to registration with RCEM as an EM-ACP
- Within the ED there is substantial exposure to the breadth of EM cases ranging from seriously ill or injured adults and children to minor injuries with ample opportunities to develop EM procedural skills
- Weekly departmental training is provided to support knowledge & skill acquisition and progress your training needs. You will also be allocated a consultant clinical supervisor and a qualified ACP mentor to support your transition into the department
- Your role will have an 80/20 split with clinical time and protected SPA time to support your growth across all 4 pillars of advanced practice.

Clinical Practice
- Provide care that is absed on evidence and supports effective and eddicient use of resources
- Provide an advanced level of assessment through accurate and detailed history taking, physiological examination and appropraite diagnostic testing.
- Have the authority to request andy further investigations as required e.g. ECG's, blood chemistry, radiology imaging
- Use a wide range of expanded clinical skills appropraite to the area of practice e.g. intravenous injections, insertion of sutures, taking and interpreting blood gases
Education
- Undertake specific training programmes relating to own role
- Evaluate own practice and seek feedback from others
- Act as a resource for students and learners, junior members of staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Provide specialist training for other professional groups
Leadership and Management
- Continue to develop a high standard of leadership, motivational and teaching skills, acting as a role model at all times
- Develop advanced practice and staff development through clinical supervision, motivation and empowerment
- Attend and deliver teaching and support the development of other staff
- Support the ED management team with management issues including recruitment and personal and professional development of staff as required.
Research and Audit

Participate in and undertake clinical research including the collection and collation of data as required to inform internal and external professional and operational bodies

Undertake audits and surveys in own area, including tracking and trending concerns and complaints and one off complex audits.
- Lead departmental audits of patient care and safety e.g. pain management, clinical pathways
- Participate in research projects ongoing within the department and may on occasion lead the research projects.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current professional registration
- Resuscitation Council UK Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Evidence of post-registration CPD
Desirable criteria
- Registration as an non-medical prescriber
- Paediatric Life Support provider (EPLS/APLS)
- Teaching & assessing qualification
- Leadership & management qualification
- Working towards RCEM ACP curriculum
- Level 7 Education
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience in Emergency or Unscheduled Care.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working as an autonomous Emergency Care Practitioner.
- Experience of quality improvement and audit.
- Experience of delivering teaching/training.
- Experience of leadership.
