Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated band 6 deputy ward manager/clinical lead to join us on Ward 21 at the Mental health unit at Royal glamorgan Hospital. 

-To be responsible and provide effective leadership for a team of staff providing a high quality service within the resources available within a defined area.

-  To support the ward manager in creating a culture of effective risk management is present in the team

-  Actively promote the development of evidence based practice

-  Foster robust working relationships with all disciplines and partners in particular the Local Authority.

-  Lead on the management of complex cases and supporting staff in the management of such cases.

-  To respond in the absence of the ward manager to serious untoward incidents, complaints and communications regarding team issues providing feedback to the team to ensure lessons learned are shared and inform practice development 

-  Deputises for Ward Manager as and when required.

Main duties of the job

Be a registered mental health nurse with experience of working in an inpatient setting.

Possess a range of clinical experience and specialist knowledge within the relevant area of practice e.g. older persons care, adult mental health, and rehabilitation/recovery.

Provide evidence of continuing professional development and post registration education.

Demonstrate good organisational ability, leadership skills and management experience.

Demonstrate a good understanding of the legislative and policy framework underpinning mental health service provision e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, National Service Frameworks, Mental Health Measures.

Welsh Skills Desirable:  This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh,  we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates.   This isn’t ‘fluency’,  just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above.  Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.   For more information, see ‘Welsh Language Guidance’ in the documents right at the bottom.

Create a therapeutic environment for patients promoting a philosophy of user/carer involvement in all aspects of the service.

Provide leadership and direction to the nursing team, acting as a role model to ensure consistency and continuity in the maintenance of high standards of care.

Be responsible for their own and the team’s delivery of the Care and Treatment Planning ensuring timely, comprehensive assessments of care needs including risk assessment, patient centred negotiated care planning and recommending evidence based treatment.

Evaluate the care given systematically, using evidence based practice and review care plans to reflect the changing needs of the individual

Provide expert knowledge in the care and treatment of clients experiencing a range of mental health problems relevant to the area of practice.

Be competent in and provide a range of therapeutic interventions relevant to the area of practice e.g. family intervention, medication management, and psycho-social interventions.

The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. CTM is a Health Board committed to meaningful consultation with staff and to making balanced decisions that consider all aspects of our service and workforce.
