Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional to join us to lead our Mortuary and Bereavement Services in CTMUHB.

We have three licensed mortuaries based in Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital and Princess of Wales Hospital and are currently reviewing our model of how we provide our services.  At the heart of our services is the importance of dignity for the deceased and care of the bereaved as well as strong conformance to regulatory standards.

We are seeking a highly motivated leader who shares our passion for high standards of dignified care of the deceased and bereaved families. You’ll have experience of ensuring compliance to regulatory standards, understanding the requirements within the Mortuary, as well as the  Medical Examiner Regulations 2024.

Leading by example you’ll have the ability to inspire and develop teams in a culture of continual quality improvement. If this like a role that fits with your values and experience, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be the lead for the Mortuary and Bereavement Services, working autonomously and liaising with all members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of the deceased and with service users.

Is responsible for all aspects of after death care including the assessment, planning and evaluation of direct interventions with users.  They will be expected to monitor and ensure a positive, caring, professional service, incorporating stakeholder and relatives’ feedback to improve quality of care delivered.

Will provide specialised training for staff regarding the management of after death care processes, and act as an effective role model and mentor for the professional delivery of the services, promoting excellence throughout practice.

The post holder will ensure dignified care of the deceased in line with the laws and codes of practice relating to the mortuary and ensure that all staff adhere to them.

Duties will be undertaken across multiple UHB sites - mortuaries are at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital and Princess of Wales Hospital.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or ‘B1’ Level if you’ve learnt Welsh as an adult). This doesn’t mean you have to be fluent or able to write long reports in Welsh; it just means being able to hold simple conversations with patients. Have a look at the ‘Croeso Candidate!’ guide attached below for more information.
