Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the neuropsychology service, including neurorehabilitation, for Cwm Taf Morgwnnwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) and to undertake clinical work in stoke services.  We are seeking to recruit a well-qualified psychologist with considerable experience of working in neuropsychology settings, who is enthusiastic about the speciality and committed to developing the service for the whole health board.  The role is varied and the post holder will be the service lead for neuropsychology with responsibility for patients with stroke and neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job

  • In consultation with the Head of Health Psychology to have delegated responsibility for the clinical and strategic leadership and service management role within the Neuropsychology Service.
  • Responsibility for the professional leadership and management of practitioner psychologists, assistant psychologists and psychological therapists within the CTMUHB Neuropsychology Service,.
  • To provide specialist advice and consultation within the Health Board and to agencies outside, on issues related to stroke and neuropsychology.
  • To ensure the implementation of effective, evidence-based models and innovative ways of working.
  • To provide specialist teaching and training, plan specialist training programmes for CTMUHB staff on models of intervention and psychological impairments.
  • Provision of highly specialist neuropsychological assessment and treatment of patients with stroke and neurological conditions.
  • To conduct service evaluations, audits and research activities in relation to stroke and neuropsychological service needs and implement service improvements in light of outcomes

The successful applicant will join the rapidly developing, supportive and dynamic CTMUHB Health Psychology Service and be directly managed by the head of service. The current psychology establishment includes a number of posts in cancer/palliative care, cardiac rehabilitation, critical care, paediatrics, weight management and employee well-being, plus pending developments in  additional specialities.  There are good links with the South Wales Clinical Doctorate programme in Cardiff University and other university courses in South Wales. There are strong networks of both clinical health psychologists and neuropsychologists in South Wales, with numerous opportunities for CPD and peer support.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Honours degree in Psychology, giving eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Professional qualification in Clinical Psychology at doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • Completed or currently working towards specialist qualification in neuropsychology (Qualification In Clinical Neuropsychology)
  • Current HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Training (or equivalent experience) in the supervision of other psychologists

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate high level of clinical effectiveness in individual and group work, risk and clinical assessment
  • Can demonstrate well-developed specialist knowledge and skills across a range of aspects of applied psychology
  • Well-developed and maintained expertise in adult health psychology.
  • Wide ranging knowledge of psychological issues for patients with neurological conditions
  • Well-developed highly specialised knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological models and therapies/interventions in brain injury and clinical neuropsychology.
  • Highly developed ability to communicate with patients, relatives, other professionals and managers about highly complex, sensitive and sometimes contentious issues relating to patient care
  • Expert and up to date knowledge of national policy and legislation in relation to neuropsychology as relevant to this post
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with NHS planning forums.
