This role provides the opportunity to work in both outpatient and community and virtual settings, providing services to a wide range of adult clients.
As well as being skilled in dysphagia management and rehabilitation, this post holder will hold a passion communication therapy and support.
We have excellent resources to support your ongoing professional development. As well as external opportunities for learning, we also run monthly CPD cafes, staff workshops, in-service training days and a protected hour a month for well being.
You will also benefit from easy access for our FEES, VFS clinics as well as our recently developed swallow rehab support groups.
We place high importance of staff having regular clinical supervision and opportunities to sit and reflect on their clinical and professional learning.

Main duties of the job
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
You will be a core member of the OPD/community team, providing communication & swallowing assessment & intervention to a patients with a range of diagnosis. These may include but not exclusive too stroke, progressive neurology’s, respiratory patients.
There is the opportunity to be involved in the training of carers and other staff within the UHB.
You will be line managed by one of the band 7 outpatient team.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Speech & Lang Therapy Degree
- Member of HCPC
- Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools for adult clients.
- Post-grad training in dysphagia
Desirable criteria
- RCSLT dysphagia accredited training
- Member of RCSLT clinical excellence network in relevant clinical area.
- Experience of training, teaching and supervising others
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-grad experience in adult services
- Experience in performing complex assessments
- Experience of working with support workers/TIs
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with acquired neurological disorders
- Experience of running support and therapy groups for patients
- Experience of partnership working with other agencies
Aptitude, Abilities and Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to analyse complex assessment information for complex cases, make complex decisions
- Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, counselling, empathy
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching others
- Skills in analysing and communicating highly complex assessment information
- Welsh Skills Desirable (Level 3/B2 or above)
