Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Community Respiratory Team. The post holder will support the delivery of a safe and effective Respiratory Nursing service (Primary & Community Care Group) across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. This will include:-

·         Clinical assessment and appropriate management strategies for new patients presenting with a range of respiratory conditions including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, chronic asthma, bronchiectasis and pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic conditions, to determine the need for a Home Oxygen Service in keeping with current British Thoracic Society (BTS) Guidelines.

 ·         Ongoing Clinical review of all patients receiving a Home Oxygen Service in line with the current British Thoracic Society (BTS) Guidelines.

·         Ongoing clinical support regarding the COPD community service

·        Ongoing clinical support regarding the Community Spirometry Service 

The post holder will practice clinically in agreed care settings according to established protocols and guidelines, and will contribute to the development and smooth running of the service.

The post holder will also contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures within their sphere of responsibility and where appropriate, will actively participate in training and education programmes, patient support groups, research, clinical audit and service evaluation.

Main duties of the job

·        Take delegated responsibility from the Respiratory Nurse Specialist for managing patients within a variety of settings, and providing clinical assessment and treatment plans for these patients.

·        Manage own daily caseload once defined by the Respiratory Nurse Specialist and guide/mentor junior staff and students where appropriate.

·        Undertake specific tasks as delegated by the Respiratory Nurse Specialist.

·         Responsible for the delivery of high standards of care, monitoring standards on a regular basis and undertaking regular audits of practice.

·         Ensure the delivery of innovative, clinically excellent evidence based care.

·         Work as part of the team.

·         Deliver sensitive information during clinical consultations.

·         Discuss and facilitate the patients decision-making process regarding future treatment plans.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse.
  • Professional/clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level equivalent Knowledge or experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in respiratory management.
Desirable criteria
  • Competence and confidence in a wide range of clinical skills including palliative care and chronic disease management.
  • Blood Gas analysis qualification or equivalent knowledge

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Live UK NMC registration

Welsh language skills

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
