Job overview

The Emergency Department Receptionist role contributes to the provision of health care to patients and relatives by providing a comprehensive and confidential clerical and receptionist support for emergency attendances and admissions. 

As part of a 24 hour service, the role supports patients in experiencing a smooth journey through adhering to the appropriate systems, policies, procedures, and processes in the department. 

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This means Speaking & Listening at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. We don’t need fluency. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. For more information, see the ‘Croeso Candidate’ booklet below.

Main duties of the job

As this is a 24 hour service, the post holder will be required to cover day, evening, night, and weekend shifts as part of the rota.

The main duties include:

  • Providing a full reception service to patients, visitors, and staff
  • To ensure all patients are booked, transferred, admitted, and discharged correctly throughout their journey in the Emergency Department
  • To input and extract data from WPAS
  • To undertake full clerical duties

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of education
  • NVQ III or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Computer literate
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in a customer care / admin and clerical role

  • Previous NHS experience
  • Experience of WPAS or other patient information systems
