The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2025/2026 and will be implemented in August 2025 with arrears backdated to 1st April 2025 where applicable. 

Job overview

•      The post holder will carry continuing responsibility for the management of the respective department and they will be highly experienced in Endoscopy nursing.

•      The post holder will be responsible for delivering a quality nursing service to all patients in their care, ensuring that all resources are used to optimum effect.

•      They will be responsible for the devising and implementation of policies and procedures for their department, which will ensure the highest standards of patient care within existing/current resources and which will ensure the highest standards and mission of the Health Board.

•      The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of staff through the observance and implementation of Health and Safety Policies and also assist them in identifying and achieving training and developmental needs through the implementation of Health Board policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

Professional/Clinical

The post holder will work autonomously having clinical and managerial responsibilities for the Endoscopy Unit.

Clinical Responsibilities

Autonomously lead and independently manage a caseload of patients directly referred to the nurse-led endoscopy lists. Performing clinical examination, history taking, diagnostic and therapeutic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and OGD. Having responsibility for interpreting results and requesting further investigations as required e.g., organising staging chest/abdominal/pelvic CT/MRI scans for those patients with malignant looking lesions.

Non-Clinical responsibilities

To plan and prioritise own workload and manage time effectively, when working alone or in collaboration with others. Where appropriate, delegate work effectively setting clear parameters of responsibility.

Communication, relationship skills & teamwork

Communicate with patients at the appropriate level of understanding about issues surrounding their medical condition, whilst maintaining patient confidentiality. Ensure that they understand the rationale for their care and consequences and alternatives. As far as possible ensure that the patient understands the information given to them, overcoming any barriers to understanding e.g., learning difficulties, deafness, cultural background etc.

This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.  

 

 

This post is  a secondment for until 31/08/2027 to meet the needs of the service

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC UK registration/1st level registered Nurse
  • Acute endoscopy/Gastroenterology experience
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration qualification/evidence of further study
  • Management Qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent Knowledge of gastroenterology nursing and caring for this group of patients
Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of leading/managing a team
  • Experienced in staff appraisal/sickness absence/HR management and rostering.
  • Experience as a band 6 in an acute setting
