Medical Team Assistant for Surgery

Job overview

The post holder will  contribute  to a 24 hour a day 7 day a week provision of emergency care by providing direct support to the nursing/medical  team responsible for patient care and undertake, according to guidelines, policies and procedures, specific interventions for patients as instructed by members of the medical team or the  nursing team.

 

Works unsupervised to established standard operating procedures, supervision is available at when required. Adheres to Cwm Taf UHB Policies and Procedures.

Main duties of the job

Undertake direct and indirect patient care related tasks as trained and assessed as competent  as instructed by a doctor or registered nurse for example: venepuncture, insertion and removal of intravenous cannula, record electrocardiogram (no interpretation) and other physiological measurements.

 

Adhere to infection control policy at all times.

 

Understand and practice a range of routine procedures, which require a basic theoretical level of knowledge, e.g. the principles of infection control.

Qualifications/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level III or equivalent level of knowledge and experience. GCSE level of education.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of Medical Team Assistant

Experience

  • Experience in team working. Experience of working in a health care environment. Previous experience of caring for people.
