Job overview

The post holder is identified as a clinical expert and is required to have a high clinical profile ensuring the provision of effective and efficient care. At this level the post holder is expected to work as a highly skilled practitioner and to have expert knowledge.  

The post holder will be required to carry out clinical assessment, treatment, discharge planning or other in patient ward referrals of surgical patients, within the parameters of their training and capability and in accordance with the requirements of Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB Surgical Directorate. 

The primary focus of the role is to work as an advanced, autonomous practitioner providing patient-centred clinical care, encompassing the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients. The post is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by improving timeliness and consistency of care. 

Main duties of the job

 The post holder will be expected to exercise high degree of professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role, within a defined framework. Expected results are defined but the post holder will decide how they are best achieved and guided by principles and broad occupational polices. They will be expected to work at an advanced clinical level within their level of competence and to work flexibly as part of a team. The role will require seven day working, including bank holidays and nights. 

The post holder will be expected to act as a practice leader, managing their own work load and work across professional, organisational, agency and system boundaries to improve services and develop practice. They will participate in networks, locally, regionally and nationally. The post holder will assess and manage risk and proactively challenge others about risk.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
