Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Nurse to work within Acute Medicine in  Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil.  The portfolio covers Acute medicine, Same day Emergency care (SDEC), Medical day unit and a frailty ward  within the Unscheduled Care Group. 

You will require effective decision-making skills, the ability to challenge, work independently and in a team.  You will work alongside the Service Group Manager for Medicine and will support the Lead Nurse and Head of Nursing in ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and nursing development, by monitoring clinical governance and patient safety standards within all aspects of the clinical environment.

This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Main duties of the job

As a Senior Nurse for Unscheduled care you will provide professional  leadership for the nursing teams within these area.  You should possess significant relevant clinical experience at Band 7 or equivalent  or above and demonstrate a good understanding of medicine. You will need to demonstrate strong clinical and professional leadership within the Unscheduled Care Group, being a visible and supportive role model. 

In order to be effective in the role you will need to demonstrate an excellent understanding of patient flow, management process, Putting Things Right and Safeguarding.  You must be able to demonstrate excellent  communication skills and have the ability to liaise with colleagues across professional and Organisational boundaries.  

As a key member of the Senior Nursing team, you will work closely with the Lead Nurse and Head of Nursing to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and cost effective patient-centred care.

Essential criteria
  • UK NMC registation
  • Master’s Level or possess skills, knowledge and/or training and experience to its equivalency
  • Specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience
Desirable criteria
  • MSc

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post-registration experience including clinical leadership, and team management and have a reputation for professional innovation and excellence
  • Significant relevant clinical experience at Band 7 or equivalent or above

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills – verbal and written (report writing)
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of quality improvement skills
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B1) are Desirable for this Role.
