Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and dynamic nurse to join our team at the Haematology Day Unit at Prince Charles Hospital.
We are a small, friendly and experienced team, we strive to deliver excellent patient care, working closely with our colleagues in the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients and their families receive care which is tailored to meet their individual needs.
The role will provide line management, supervision and leadership to team of registered nurses/Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW) within the Haematology Day Unit at Prince Charles Hospital.
In addition, the manager will be expected to organise co-ordinate haematology outpatient clinics and liaise appropriately with other departments.
The post holder will possess specialist knowledge and expertise and will be highly experienced in all aspects of haematology nursing.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Main duties of the job
Have the continuing responsibility of the management and the delivery of a highly specialised service within the Haematology Day Unit (HDU) PCH ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.
• To support the Senior Nurse in the recruitment and retention of staff involving job descriptions and chairing interview panels.
• Be responsible for the management of duty rostering and annual leave allocation, ensuring adequate staffing levels and skill mix to suit the needs of the ward at all times, e.g. during periods of sickness and staff vacancies.
• Line manage the staff on the HDU with responsible for discipline of staff dealing with grievance issues.
• Conduct regular staff appraisals identifying training needs and personal development plans, in accordance with organisational objectives, ensuring all staff’s registration is maintained and monitor progress towards Revalidation

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse.
- Extensive knowledge and appreciation of national policies and standards.
- Chemotherapy experience
Desirable criteria
- Teaching/Assessing Module.
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical audit, effective research processes and application
Experience
Essential criteria
- Ward/Team management experience.
- Clinically credible with background in multi-disciplinary working.
- Experience of nursing patients in a haematology/oncology chemotherapy setting
Desirable criteria
- Working in a wide range of clinical areas
- Post registration experience including clinical leadership, teaching and assessing
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – verbal and written able to produce verbal and written reports to a high standard
- Needs to be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, be enthusiastic and demonstrate a high level of self-motivation
- Excellent Teaching/Presentation skills.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of undertaking presentation to groups
- Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B1) are Desirable for this Role.
