Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a part time , permanent Band 3 senior health care assistant for Rheumatology clinic. 

You will be part of a friendly and proactive  team and will  support  the registered nurses as well as running a phlebotomy clinics and a  Dexa scanning service as well as assisting the Doctor and specialist nurse clinics. 

Phlebotomy skills are preferable, however full training will be provided, evidence of significant experience as a healthcare assistant is essential. 

The role is  Monday - Friday, excluding bank holidays and weekends. 

English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the role include: 

  • Perform phlebotomy in a dedicated clinic/outpatient setting. 
  •  Recording of observations 
  • Record weight and height measurements
  • Maintain adequate heath records
  • Maintain communication with patients 
  • Assist Doctors and specialist nurses in outpatient clinic

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a member of the  Rheumatology outpatient department team, the Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver a high standard of care and experience to patients who visit the department. The HCSW will work under the instruction of the clinical team members to assist with a range of clinical tasks required during the patient’s outpatient appointment.  They will have a close working relationship with the administration team to receive clinic lists and report relevant information required for future appointments.

They will complete a range of administration tasks delegated by registered professionals to ensure that patients receive their prescriptions on time and attend an annual review appointment.

They work closely with patients to ensure treatments and investigations are performed.

  • Significant experience as a HCA in hospital.

  • Evidence of excellent IT skills and knowledge of working with WCP & WPAS

  • Experience in Rheumatology clinic setting
