Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a cancer information assistant based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

The successful candidate will proactively assist with managing patients through their Urgent Cancer pathway. The post holder will work with a variety of staff and departments to ensure appointments, diagnostics and treatment are booked, reported and available in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient, service and national targets.

We require a hardworking, motivated individual who has excellent communication skills who is IT literate with a good knowledge and understanding of computer packages.

Great organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise their work accordingly is paramount.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the Cancer Services Team by collecting information on appropriate cancer site-specific patients and entering it onto the CANISC and Tracker 7 databases, enabling the specialist teams to monitor their activity, clinical outcomes and performance against the National Cancer Standards and Patient pathway targets. The post holder will maintain accurate databases containing cancer information, and carry out routine data validation and cleansing. They will be aware of, and report to the Cancer Services Supervisor, any issues or problems relating to data quality and completeness.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. For more information, see ‘Welsh Language Guidance’ in the documents right at the bottom.
