Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dedicated team of radiographers in a busy MRI environment on a fixed term contract of 12 months. The post is based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and applications from part time/job share/full time working will be considered.

MRI  has 2 Siemens scanners namely Aera 1.5T and Sola 1.5T.   Alongside 2 GE Revolution CT scanners,  this forms the Diagnostic Hub which has a significant role in early diagnostics and ambulatory care within the Health Board.

We perform a comprehensive range of MRI examinations to include cardiac, whole body, prostate, breast, enterography and peripheral angiography. We run regular Paediatric GA lists having introduced ‘Bed Time’ Scanning Lists to reduce the requirement for GA examinations for our paediatric population.  We actively encourage role development of staff supporting our MRI Radiographers to train in IV cannulation, image appreciation to include reporting of orbits imaging prior MRI scans where appropriate. In addition to this, staff act as referrers for Orbits and Foot examinations following IR(ME)R 2017 & MRI safe systems of work.

Provision of MRI Conditional Pacemaker scanning, Cochlear Implant service and increased Radiographer vetting and entitlement are examples of service developments currently being developed across the Health Board.

This post is fixed term for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

To work as a Senior Radiographer providing care for patients within the MRI Department, working without direct supervision, reporting to the Superintendent Radiographers.

To perform IV cannulation on patients for specific examinations and to administer pharmaceuticals in line with imaging protocol and procedure.

To participate in the Directorate Quality Assurance Programme being responsible for the monitoring of MRI quality assurance, suggesting and implementing changes as appropriate.

Good communication skills are essential to ensure an effective and safe service to the patients in our care. The successful candidate will be required to liaise with staff across the Health Board and to provide help and instruction to other members of staff within the Department.

In relation to IR(ME)R 2017, you will act as a Practitioner for plain film referrals as detailed in your Entitlement document following the appropriate training and assessment period.

Experience and an understanding of the Clinical Audit process is an essential requirement of the post and involvement in departmental audits is encouraged.

The Radiology Directorate supports training and development of staff and the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the ability to train and mentor Radiographers and student Radiographers within their specialised roles.
