Job overview

Do you want to gain experience as a Band 4 Assistant practitioner and be involved in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of Trauma and Orthopaedic patients? 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work alongside experienced physiotherapy clinicians in the area of Trauma and Orthopaedics in Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Pontyclun. 

You will carry out treatment programs under the guidance of a registered therapist in order to provide rehabilitation and other interventions to facilitate safe discharge. Some clerical and administration tasks will also be undertaken (e.g. keeping records, filing, photocopying). You will be expected to work independently.

A positive and organized approach to rehabilitation is essential. Good communication skills and commitment to team working within a safe, empathetic and supportive environment are also needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for somebody who has previous experience as a therapy or rehabilitation assistant in an NHS or care setting.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be able to provide support to the therapy team on the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards in the day to day assessments of clients and delivery of Physiotherapy treatment programmes. They will be involved in assessment, progression and discharge planning of this patient group and will be expected to utilise rehabilitation programmes. You will be responsible for your own caseload, working both individually and alongside other members of the team. Your tasks will include being responsible for gathering information about home circumstances, completing specific functional assessments, ordering equipment if needed, providing rehabilitation and planning discharges.

The Band 4 role will also involve the timely planning of discharge and referral to onward community services.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 3 level or equivalent knowledge of specific patient conditions or level 3 certificate in personal training/fitness instruction
Desirable criteria
  • Basic understanding of proper and safe use of therapy equipment

Welsh language skills

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as Band 3 in healthcare or equivalent experience from the leisure or social care sector
  • Experience of delivering rehabilitation with patient/service users that require high levels of supervision and advanced communication techniques.

IT & Quality Improvement

Essential criteria
  • Standard keyboard skills and familiarity of computer software i.e. word processing, email, excel
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in service development and experience of data collection and analysis.
