Are you a Psychologist looking for diversity in your clinical work? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate 8a Psychologist to join our thriving Older Person’s Psychology Team within CTMUHB, on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will work within Memory Assessment Services (MAS), experiencing the breadth and diversity of clinical work that this area has to offer, across CTMUHB.

We also welcome enquires from Trainee Psychologists nearing qualification or newly qualified Practitioner Psychologists.

The CTM UHB Older Person’s Psychology Team consists of a supportive and passionate team of colleagues, including experienced Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and Psychological Therapists. We’re a team who embraces change and opportunity, and are currently in an exciting period of service development. The successful candidate will be well supported and mentored by senior colleagues, and provided with a range of opportunities for career development.

The wider Psychology service within CTM UHB has undergone exciting developments in recent months and is a thriving department to sit within. We hold regular conferences throughout the year, where psychology teams across CTM UHB come together to share good practice and innovations within the trust and wider. We have close links with local Doctoral Clinical/Counselling Psychology programmes and provide regular training and placement opportunities to Trainees.

Main duties of the job

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) Older Person’s Mental Health (OPMH) services are currently divided into five areas: Bridgend, Rhondda, Cynon, Taff and Merthyr – each area has it's own Memory Assessment Service (MAS) and Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). The successful candidate for this post work within MAS Psychology services across CTMUHB.  The post holder will sit within well-established multi-disciplinary teams consisting of Old Age Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, and Support Workers, providing specialist psychological knowledge, expertise and consultation to the team.

This role provides an opportunity for an 8a Psychologist to work within  MAS, providing a high quality psychology service to the  teams and population within CTMUHB. The OPMH Psychology Team provide a range of interventions to support the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of those within the MAS pathway. This includes providing Neuropsychological Assessments, and pre-/post-diagnostic interventions as appropriate for those within the MAS pathway, including group and individual psychological therapies for those living with Dementia and/or their care partners.

Qualifications and/or Experience

Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling psychology, (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) including specifically, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by Health and Care Professions Council, HCPC.
  • Must be registered with the HCPC.
  • Training in supervision of Trainee Psychologists
  • Completion of suitable post-qualification supervised clinical experience with client group(s).
Desirable criteria
  • Additional post-qualification training or experience in cognitive assessment/ Neuropsychology.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Care and treatment planning as defined under the Mental Health Measure, Wales.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of clinical presentations, across the whole life course.
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification experience of working in older people’s mental health services and with service users who have dementia and their families/carers.
  • Post qualification experience in cognitive assessment.
  • Experience of supervising psychologists and psychological therapists from other professions e.g. nursing, occupational therapy.
