The post holder will lead the business support, contract, and performance functions within Complex Care, delivering an efficient and timely service to improve performance across the Directorate.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and innovative leader to join Complex Care Services as Assistant Head of Service.

Reporting to the Directorate Head of Service, this pivotal role will lead the operational and business support, contract management and performance functions within Complex Care, ensuring services are planned and delivered in a cost‑effective, efficient and sustainable way. The post holder will play a key role in service transformation, integration and partnership working, supporting the delivery of modern, patient and citizen‑focused services across the Directorate.

This role requires strong strategic leadership, system‑wide thinking and the ability to work collaboratively across organisational and professional boundaries to improve performance, quality and outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to master’s degree level or equivalent level of work experience
  • Evidence of recent, relevant continual professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Significant experience of Partnership working
  • An appropriate management qualification
  • Project/programme management qualification eg Prince2 / MSP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience, working at a senior level in a large complex organisation
  • Previous senior management experience responsible for service development and planning
  • Experience of primary, community, acute or Local Government change/
  • Significant experience of working with staff, their representatives and trade unions/professional organisations
  • Experience of Health Board information systems and processes
Desirable criteria
  • Development and implementation of integrated care pathways/integrated service models
  • Knowledge of commissioning
  • Knowledge of intermediate care Understanding of costing techniques, benchmarking and VFM tools

  • Ability to travel as required to do the job
  • Show resilience, stamina and reliability under sustained pressure, never losing sight of objectives
