Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Urgent Care Division in the Emergency Department. If you are looking for a new challenge this may be the opportunity for you. You will be expected to work as part of the multidisciplinary team and be actively involved in providing high standards of care during the busiest periods which includes nights. 

You will also be expected to demonstrate a high level of nursing assessment and clinical care skills by supporting qualified nursing staff.

This post is currently advertised at Band 2. The role is under review within the Health Board as part of a national review and may, in future, progress to Band 3 with an updated Job description. If appointed, your manager will ensure you are kept informed and will support you through any changes, including discussing relevant training requirements

The post holder will support registered nurses with the provision of care for patients in the Emergency Department.

Currently we are unable to provide certificates of sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the Home Office’s criteria. Anyone requiring a certificate of sponsorship is therefore unable to be shortlisted and interviewed.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Clinical  

  • The post holder works as part of the ED team under the supervision of the registered nurses and supports them by participating in the delivery of patient care. The post holder will be expected to be self-motivated and use their initiative as necessary 
  • Complete a locally approved orientation/induction program and will maintain an agreed level of competence  
  • Utilise customer care skills when caring for patients and relatives  
  • Share with the registered nursing staff information relating to the patient   
  • Help and support patients so that their stress is minimised  
  • Assist patients achieve physical and psychological comfort  
  • Report any changes in a patients condition to the Nurse in Charge and respond to clinical urgencies  
  • Where appropriate instigate emergency procedures  
  • Maintain and protect confidential information relating to patients at all times  
  • Maintain a clean environment and equipment 
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with patients, relatives, colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team.  
  • Communicate with patients and relatives using tact and sensitivity  
  • Help patients to overcome communication barriers  
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the overall band of the post. 
  • Contribute to the promotion of health and prevention of illness, as directed by the registered nurse
  • Teamwork
  • Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, assisting the team to achieve service developments
