Job overview
There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join the operations team at ABUHB.
The Deputy Head of Operations will be a visible, authoritative and professional clinical leader with responsibility for patient experience and strategically lead on all day-to-day and forward operational planning and decision making on the acute hospital sites, liaising with multi professional colleagues throughout the Health Board. The role is expected to deliver cross system leadership on a daily basis.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
To assess the ability of the hospital to cope with emergency and elective demand and to devise and implement a daily operational plan, and
forward planning in conjunction with the Divisions and the Head of Operations.
To maintain an accurate and contemporaneous bed state across the system, monitoring actual and potential occupancy at all times and be responsible for the collection and have the ability to analyse the bed management date for Sit Reps, internal audit and external requirements.
To strategically manage and co-ordinate the transfer of patients through the in-patient system to allow for sufficient capacity and safe placement of emergency and elective admissions on all acute sites.
To utilise excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills and ability to convey highly complex and sensitive information to a variety of
audiences, often with significant barriers and emotional reactions.
To provide arbitration on bed use, including admissions and cancellation, in line with Health Board requirements to meet inpatient and ED key performance indicators to maintain patient safety.
Liaise with key members of multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care through the development of standardised protocols and
improve care pathways.
Liaise with and support Service Managers and Senior Nurses to provide a corporate approach to the deployment of nursing staff. Deputise for the Head of Operations in their absence.
