Job overview

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR UPTO 9 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE

The Performance analyst will support the reporting processes across the Regional Cataracts Project and will take a lead role in 
the cataracts performance reporting requirements for the organisation. Based within the Planning and Performance Team, this 
is an exciting opportunity to join the team and to bring together data from across Aneurin Bevan, Cwm Taf Morgannwg, and 
Cardiff and Vale. The post holder will play a key role in driving improvement, reporting and providing insight to support the 
decisions that we make to improve performance, with a clear insight into the cause and effect of change to inform our 
approach to delivering cataract services across three Health Boards and with private sector partners. It is an exciting time to 
join the team as we build our capability to understand and support improvement across the three Health Boards in this area.

Main duties of the job

To work to achieve agreed objectives, working within broad professional policies. Working independently without direct 
reference to their manager.

This is a key role within the Regional Cataracts Project and the support of the Planning and Performance Team will provide the 
professional support to integrate this regional programme within ABUHB.

The postholder will develop reports, provide evidence 
for strategic and operational decisions to inform short-medium and long-term decisions. Collaboration is at the heart of how we work with three health boards and our private providers. This role will require 
experience in using appropriate reporting approaches in a related field for reporting, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. The post holder will use their skills and experience to develop innovative approaches and direction to partners engaging in performance activity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• The individual will support the production of Regional performance reporting products and the development of new 
performance indicators, reports and, dashboards. The post holder will be required to work closely with the Senior 
Programme Manager for Regional Ophthalmology and the Head of System Planning and Performance to report 
progress against the delivery of Cataracts Plan, IMTP and escalation reporting requirements.
• They will also be required to develop strong working relationships with colleagues across all three health boards for 
operational links, informatics and planning links, to monitor the impact of the organisations plans and track our 
progress.
• The post holder will be expected to provide assurance, highlight any variances in performance and bring performance 
issues to the attention of the Senior Programme Manager for Regional Ophthalmology and the Head of System
Planning and Performance. This will be facilitated by collating data from a variety of sources and will involve direct 
communication and liaison with performance leads and senior managers across the region.
• Analysing and interpreting the information the post holder will ensure that all internal and external performance 
reports that are produced represent an accurate reflection of performance and meet timescales imposed
• To produce statistical analytical reports for stakeholders, which will require the setting up and adjusting formulae.
• The post holder will assist and deputise, where appropriate, for the Cataracts Project Manager.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Additional specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate qualifications or equivalent Performance Management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the role of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board
  • Knowledge of health inequalities

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in an information/performance management role
  • Experience of communicating complex information to clinical and non-clinical staff, external partners and the public
  • Experience of influencing people who were not directly line managed to take action
  • Clear understanding of current and ongoing issues affecting health and care
  • Knowledge of the NHS performance agenda
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing performance management systems/frameworks

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Advanced IT and analytical skills with high level of experience of using Microsoft Office and specialist software, such as statistical and Business Intelligence tools
  • Able to analyse and interpret performance data and communicate information in a variety of different formats
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to present performance information both verbally and in writing
  • Negotiate with Senior Managers in respect of poor performance in a constructive way
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction and supervision, within a set framework/boundary
  • Able to face varying demands, frequently requiring intense concentration and effort to deliver multiple objectives/conflicting priorities
