Aneurin Bevan University Health Board support flexible working.

Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the living wage of £12.60 per hour - £24,638 per annum.

This temporary top up will be in place until the annual pay uplift for 2025/26 is confirmed.

Job overview

We are pleased to advertise vacancies for Band 5 Registered Nurses to work a proportion of the 44.0 hours per week we have to offer. We will accept full time hours (37.5) or a minimum of 20hrs per week would be considered. There is an expectation that your starting time of a shift would be 08:00hrs. The successful candidates will be working across the two sites and will be expected to do so on a regular time frame.

Modern, nurse-led services are a major feature of Outpatients nursing at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board – and it makes for great variety learning and the chance for different career progression and probable succession planning for the right candidates.

Band 5 staff nurses will be heavily involved in these services, and have opportunities to undertake specialist training days alongside core development.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. 

Main duties of the job

Life as a staff nurse in Outpatients could involve minor operations, various nurse-led clinics, the chance to work in a community setting, working in a range of specialty clinics which include undertaking observations, facilitating Intra Venous treatment sessions, supporting consultants and looking after patients and their families. There are a lot of interesting nurse-led services in Outpatients. These include dressing clinics often handling complex dressings. Nurse led cardiac clinics; day case Infusion services run by our Nephrology team in conjunction with the speciality Clinical Nurse.

Outpatients is very much a modern Monday to Friday service, clinics commencing  at varying times catering for patients’ needs. We often facilitate week end clinics to manage waiting times that were hampered by the COVID pandemic, working extra hours as required. It therefore requires flexible working to meet service and patient’s needs. We do a range of treatments and nurses undertake observations and lots of patient contact, which include venepuncture, ECG’s, siting of IV cannulas and IV additives

The successful candidates will be given the opportunity to work in a range of specialities in different clinics along with rotation between the two sites. You will quickly experience different roles and opportunities, working with a dedicated, experienced and friendly team.
