Job overview

The Post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that will provide health care services to patients within the Cardiac Cath Labs and Recovery, focusing on the direct needs of service users undergoing healthcare treatments.

To work within clinical competencies, with supporting base knowledge. Work within defined protocols, adhering to the code of conduct for Health Care Support Workers in Wales under the direction and close supervision of a registered nurse.

Demonstrates a process of attaining continuous professional development, including statutory and mandatory training relevant to the role.

To assist with maintaining a culture physical health and well-being that fosters optimum health and recovery.

Main duties of the job

• To work as part of the team under the supervision and delegation of the registered nurses, supporting in the delivery of patient care. The post holder will be expected to be self-motivated and use their initiative planning their workload around the needs of the ward.
• Perform venepuncture following ANTT guidelines.
• Perform 12 lead ECG and report to registered nurse.
• To update patient notes and ensure the filing and safe storage of patient notes.
• To communicate factual information with patients using reassurance, tact, empathy; may overcome barriers to 
understanding as needed.
• Assess patients’ conditions through basic observations record patient observations; monitor blood glucose; collect specimens; instigate emergency procedures.
• Undertake a check list for theatre patients and patients undergoing cardiac procedures. Prepare patients for theatre including 
completion of the integrated care pathway for the relevant procedure and the safety briefing form.
• Report any changes in a patient’s condition to the Nurse in Charge and respond to clinical emergencies.
• Maintain and protect confidentiality at all times.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with patients, relatives, colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary 
team.
• Undertake any other duties consistent with the overall band of the post.
• Contribute to the promotion of health and prevention of illness, as directed by the registered nurse.
