Job overview
We are looking for a self-motivated, forward-thinking clinician who is a strong team player with the ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and excellent communication skills, to join our critical care physiotherapy team in the Grange University Hospital.
You will need to have completed rotations, or have equivalent experience in, musculoskeletal outpatients, orthopaedic in patients, respiratory, neurology / rehabilitation at band 5 level.
Main duties of the job
The Physiotherapy service prides itself on providing excellent training opportunities, being committed to following evidence-based practice ensuring we provide a high-quality service to our patents. We encourage staff development through a structured appraisal system, in-service training programmes, and participation in speciality forums, clinical audit, and other development opportunities as they arise. The post is supported by band 7’s and a Clinical Lead in acute cardiorespiratory.
You will be actively involved in the education and mentoring of Band 5 Physiotherapists and physiotherapy students on placement from Cardiff University.
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) covers a wide geographical area. The post is based on critical care at the Grange University Hospital, with support as required to the respiratory and surgical wards.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the respiratory on-call rota.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Registered with Health Professions Council

Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of clinical experience through a comprehensive Band 5 rotation
- Experience of participating in and delivering in-service training programmes
- Specific experience in speciality applied for
- Experience in supervising staff
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of having worked in the UK as a HCPC registered physiotherapist
- Evidence of having worked unsupervised
- Evidence of having participated in on-call and seven day service provision where appropriate
- Previous Band 6 position
- Experience in taking students
Skills & Knowledge

- The ability to discuss the clinical reasoning process in the management of routine and more complex cases
- The ability to identify and act upon adverse clinical signs
- Awareness of relevant national clinical guidelines
- Good communication skills both verbal and written when interacting with members of the team, other professionals, clients and their families
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Evidence of initiative
- Good time management
- Demonstrate the ability to discuss the ethos of clinical governance and it’s relevance in physiotherapy practice
- The ability to demonstrate an understanding of the NHS and the challenges facing the physiotherapy service
- The ability to supervise staff who will be directly accountable to the post holder
- The ability to demonstrate critical appraisal skills
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development sufficient to meet HPC requirements
