Job overview

The Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology are appointing 2x Senior Clinical Fellow's at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

  • 6-month gap 

  • 8-month gap

This post will provide the post-holder with a broad experience in general internal medicine, with a focus on Diabetes & Endocrinology. This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

· Enhanced check with barred list information, including an adults barred list check

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.

Main duties of the job

To ensure high quality and safe care of acutely unwell people admitted to our endocrinology wards.

To contribute to the care of patients on our specialty wards and any medical outliers.

Successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality care with the support of the ward team to ensure excellent clinical outcome. There will be opportunities, where possible, to participate in delivery of subspecialty Diabetes and Endocrinology care. The Candidate would be offered opportunities to attend outpatient clinics and develop experience in the management of a wide arrange of diabetes and endocrinology clinical scenarios.

To undertake essential administrative duties, including prescribing, writing electronic discharge letters, and liaising with colleagues in primary care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be working with Diabetes and Endocrinology consultants and will be responsible for daily review of the patients admitted under the Consultant in designated ward and in outlying ward.

Candidate is expected to be on the medical on call rota and will be involved in management of acutely unwell general medical patients admitted through A&E and AMU under supervision of medical Consultant.

The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital. This statutory duty is in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with the post.

Finally, the post holder is expected to:

Observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff

Be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues
