About the Role

The Division Accountant is a key financial business partner providing high quality financial insight in support of delivering the Health Board’s financial objectives.

This role is ideal for someone ready to take the next step in their finance career combining strong analytical skills with the ability to build relationships and support operational and clinical teams.

You’ll play a vital role in supporting directorates to understand their financial position, make informed decisions, and deliver high‑quality, sustainable services. You’ll be a key link between Finance and operational colleagues, helping to ensure resources are used effectively for the benefit of patients and communities across Gwent.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Provide high‑quality financial advice, analysis, and support to designated directorates.

Build strong working relationships across Finance and operational teams, acting as a trusted point of contact.
Prepare clear, insightful financial reports for operational and clinical leaders.
Identify financial risks and opportunities, supporting directorates to manage their resources effectively.
Lead on monthly budget monitoring, variance analysis, and forecasting.
Assist in the development of business cases and service improvement proposals.
Support the annual budget‑setting process and contribute to financial planning cycles.
Promote good financial governance and value for money.

About You

This role suits someone who is confident working with numbers and equally confident working with people. You will be:

A CCAB‑qualified accountant or finalist (or equivalent) and able to demonstrate relevant experience in a complex financial environment.
Skilled in financial analysis, interpretation, and presenting information clearly.
Able to communicate effectively with non‑finance colleagues, adapting your style to your audience.
Comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
Proactive, curious, and committed to continuous improvement.
A team player who enjoys collaboration and problem‑solving.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This role will be a dedicated support to the Research and Development Department based at Royal Gwent Hospital. The role will require three days a week within the R&D Department with options to work across other sites within the Health Board estate.
