Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide clinical supervision for resident doctors at elective orthopaedic sites, ensuring high standards of care for patients undergoing elective orthopaedic procedures, as well as trauma patients transferred from the acute site. Conducting daily ward rounds, leading clinical decision-making regarding assessments and investigations, and liaising with senior colleagues from other specialties and with patients’ families as appropriate. The postholder will act as the primary point of contact for resident doctors, ANP's, and nursing staff on the wards for all patient-related queries. They will also champion the “Short Stay Arthroplasty” initiative, including monitoring performance metrics and presenting outcomes and learning points at monthly Clinical Governance meetings. With an expectation to maintain ongoing responsibility for the care of patients at the elective orthopaedic sites, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with consultant colleagues and alignment with the department’s Operational Policy and Strategic Plan. With participation in clinical governance activities and continuing medical education, including teaching and training sessions for resident doctors and nursing staff. Helping to oversee medical staffing requirements within the elective units, including the reallocation of resident doctors as necessary to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
