Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the living wage of £12.60 per hour - £24,638 per annum.

This temporary top up will be in place until the annual pay uplift for 2025/26 is confirmed.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department for both full time and part time Back up Medical Secretaries to join the Nevill Hall and Royal Gwent Hospital teams.

We are looking for suitable candidates who have a professional manner,  keen, a team player and able to work independently to ensure that the Trust standards are adhered to.  You will be required to provide comprehensive medical, secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and nursing teams,  primarily typing of clinics but also include covering duties of the medical secretaries as required.

Our ideal candidates will have proven Medial Secretary experience enabling them to fit into a team of longstanding professional Secretaries.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for two experienced, highly motivated back up medical secretaries to join us within   Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Nevill Hall and Royal Gwent Hospitals.

You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work.

You must be able to work on your initiative use, tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills.

Audio typing skills are essential. Knowledge of hospital systems would be beneficial although full training will be given to the successful candidate.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main Responsibilities:

To provide an audio typing service to Consultants and their clinical Team to support the Antenatal clinics, including typing patient clinic letters. Provide typing support where necessary to medical secretaries including results letters and other authorised reports and correspondence where applicable.

Filing and maintenance of patient case notes and other records including timely maintenance of Trust electronic patient information systems

Answer and action telephone enquiries from General Practitioners, other hospital departments, other hospitals, patients, patients’ relatives and others on behalf of the Consultant

Liaise with other personnel (i.e. Medical Records staff, scheduling staff) regarding the arrangement of follow-up appointments, on-going referrals to other departments, and generally assist with the smooth running of the service.

Deputise for the medical secretaries as required
